This girl enjoyed a mid-morning romp in the sun at her home in Chelsea, MI. A fun-loving dog, she really loves to cuddled, too. Love spending time with her. She’s the epitome of a JRT: energetic, fun, inquisitive and doesn’t take no for an answer.

As humans, we can learn something from this breed.

This dog has been dressed to partake in an outdoor sunset wedding. The dog shows subdued behavior under the short lead of the trainer. The next day, the same 91 lbs. dog, while no longer under the control of the trainer, unprovoked, attacked your photographer and caused considerable injury. Breaux Vineyards, Purcerville, Va., USA

I was observing Southern Royal Albatross (Diomedea epomophora) at Taiaroa Head, on the tip of the Otago Peninsula.

A Royal Albatross colony is living here and is possible to contemplate and be impressed by his magnitude and behaviors.

This subject was in a small edge of the hill, close to his nest, and he opened his huge wings of about 5 ft each one waiting for a single wind blow, in some seconds he was flying and falling extremely fast down the cliff.
The most exiting I’ve saw was his flying ability without move the wings, just opening them started to glide and flow over us like a perfect plane.

IUCN redlist: Although current population trends are assumed to be stable, this species qualifies as Vulnerable.

Last Luna Pic From Us

Today was a really sad day for us (which my terribly swollen and bloodshot eyes are visible proof of). Luna’s breeder said that from what we are telling her about Luna not being house-trained anymore (she supposedly was at her home) it sounds like she’s not feeling comfortable with us at all and that she might actually be suffering. So the breeder told us she really wanted to pick her up and take her back, because it would be better for the dog.
We didn’t have the confidence to say "No, we know we can do this!", because … well, we didn’t know if we could. We don’t really know if her behaviour wasn’t maybe the most normal puppy behaviour in the world. And we probably will never know. Because we didn’t want to risk this little darling’s happiness, we made this terribly rational and extremely painful decision. I cried like a fucking baby when she left.

dog attack jerk’s dogs

the dog attack asshole’s dogs, story below. apologies for the blur, i was shooting, on my phone and trying to keep the asshole and his dogs from coming near tthe wounded dog while not being bitten myself.

yesterday afternoon and evening i took a walk through cabbagetown since i’d been shooting everywhere else but near home lately. after a while i thought i’d head over to riverdale park, and just as i entered it the screaming started. the asshole pictured here had both his dogs off their leashes and they had cornered another dog, one of them repeatedly attacking him. i ran (well, walked quickly, as the knees allowed) over, yelling, along with a couple of other people who were nearby, and we managed to scare the attacking dogs off. the other dog, who’d clearly been bitten a few times, seemed not too badly off, thankfully. we yelled at the idiot above to leash his dogs and get them under control, which he refused to do – he even refused to leave the park until i took some shots of him and pulled out my phone to call the police. the leashes went on then, but he didn’t take hold of the other end.

the 911 call proved useless – i was transferred around to non-emergency and a couple of other departments, and it quickly became clear that the cops didn’t give a flying fuck. the indifferent human i last spoke to offered to put in a request for a car to come out to us, but knowing response times (a neighbour had her house broken into the other day and waited for three hours for a couple of bored uniforms to show up and ask if she had insurance), i gave up.

the dog’s owner was in distress, but the dog stayed friendly and walked around, even greeting the new dog arrivals in a friendly manner. still, she took him to her vet and his wounds, i found out later when she called me, were serious, including one nasty tear on his throat. i sent her these shots last night, and she’s going to post a warning about him in the park and nearby – we’re trying to sort out other ways to warn people away from this fucking idiot, too. he apparently hangs out on the far side of riverdale park, near broadview and danforth.

i don’t blame the dogs. i blame this shithead and the other people who train powerful animals to be aggressive and who take zero responsiblity for their actions, to the point that they even refuse to control their pets because they are afraid of being bitten themselves. animal control shouldn’t euthanise these dogs, they should remove them from his home and let them go be retrained somewhere away from other animals until they can be resocialised. the human can be euthanised, though – he’s clearly useless and we’re an overpopulated species.

An Interview With Tricia Wang: Unprofessionalized Dog Trainer Extraordinaire
3084981815 e8f71ef376 Cool Adult Dog Train images

I get asked all the time – what is it with you and canines? I’ve been known for my ability to speak to animals in a language that has never been deciphered by humans.
you love dog purses, you love attacking dogs, you love dancing with them, antagonizing them, you love being a wolf and you love biting other people when you’re a wolf- what is it?

Luckily The Wolf Times called me for an interview! They wanted to speak to me about my amazing training abilities.

Tricia, what is your methodology?: WEll I beleive that the best way to get people – I mean dogs – to listen is inspiring fear!

Why do you think you are so good at training wild dogs?: Great Question! I treat dogs the way I wish I could treat everyone – I wish I could just say sit, and everyone would listen. In dog world, I am always the master. Unfortunately, with humans – there are others who also think they are masters of the world.

How can someone learn from your methods if they are unable to hire you until the end of this recession in 10 years?: My advice is that you always maintain eye contact with your animal. Lead by the nose, as Cesar Milan says – and don’t afraid to show your love through fierce wolf eyes.

Does being an unprofessional dog trainer interfere with your career?: As a sociologist, I find that my field is so professionalized that it’s a mental break to come home and spend time on an unprofessionalized field, such as dog training.

What’s up the dog purse obsession? I think we are tactile beings and we love touch – but part of adult socialization says that we’re not supposed to enjoy simple touch of furry things. We end up buying expensive goose feather pillows and comforters that are great to lay on – but we can’t feel them! Also adult socialization tells us that we can’t like little playful things – well as you can see the Japanese never bought that silly value – they love their manga and anime! So you know what I decided that I could also carry around dog purses as an adult – I love to touch and pet it – it just feels wonderful. I don’t carry it to meetings or work – but you will find me during the weekends with my dog purse!

And what’s up the wolf hat? Well the Wolf hat just makes me happy and it makes everyone else happy. If we are at a place in our friendship where I can bite you and you find it funny, then I would say you’re pretty cool and we can chill together. Children to know how to play and imagine and so much of growing up in Western and chinese culture is about replacing imagination with rationality. I don’t see what the two forms of thinking can’t co-exist together. I can gauge my level of worldly engagement by how often I wear my wolf hat and bite people – if I’m around people I can bite – that means I’m around close non-judgemental friends. If I can wear my wolf hat a lot – that means my imagination is running around. Life is so much more fun when you see it through the eyes of an animal.

Dog Training Books

As a self-identified cat person, I have largely been able to ignore the dog world. Having entered it I can see that this territory is a mine field thus caution is advised less a dog person jump on you barking with opinions. Educating myself was my chosen strategy of defense.

From the first book I read, Katz on Dogs by Jon Katz, I learned that 95% of American dog owners do not train their dogs (past the housebreaking part presumably). THow dog owners talk about why their dog is behaving badly and what their dog is thinking fills the vacuum created by this general ignorance. Katz calls this Theory of Mind—that is—the pet owners theories of what is going on in the dog’s mind, not what is actually going on which is much more basic per a creature with the IQ of a three year old. He also talks about two different schools of training, the pack leader method and the behavior modification technique whereby you wait for the dog to do the right thing then reward it with a treat or simply bribe the dog to do something. Don’t give the dog anything for free is the motto here. Katz prefers this theory and he teaches very accessible, methods of getting the dog to behave using treats and a dog crate for the time out periods and for calming a dog.

Behavior modification is the method used by television’s Animal Planet dog trainer, Victoria Stillwell, a British woman, dressed like Miss Peal, making house calls in her black Porsche convertible and busting dog owners on their negligence and stupidity regarding dogs, very much like the British woman in Nanny 101. I’ve never been tempted to use this British stereotype myself, but there is a not insignificant part of me that lives there, plus my mother devoted her career, as a child behaviorist, using these no nonsense techniques.

As far as TV personalities in the dog world go, no one can hold a candle to Cesar Milan, aka the Dog Whisperer. He is of the pack leader theory and his ability with dogs in this regard is phenomenal. I’m so impressed with his presentation I shall give his book a separate review. His show makes great television because of the remarkable change in behavior, even in the most unruly dogs, sometimes within half an hour. His techniques are varied and diverse to fit the dog, but high on his list is the attitude of the trainer as pack leader and the use of dog protocol to establish this leadership. It is almost cultural and reminds me a bit of the Asian protocol for bowing to establish hierarchy. I suspect that most dog owners would find his teachings difficult to apply because it means that they must practice a discipline that goes against all their dog loving desire to love the dog as one would a human. All these books talk about how problematic is this tendency to think animals into humans.

Interestingly enough both he and Katz recommend the books by the Monks of New Skete. Published in 1978, this was virtually the only dog training book until very recently. They also have a video filled with beautiful German shepherds and a rural New York landscape that makes it easy to take in their teachings. Theirs is the middle way. Treats are allowed, but infrequently. Discipline and repetition are the backbone of their methods, while affection is encouraged for socializing the puppies. They also bring a spiritual approach to the communion of man and beast that is compelling in its premise of humans living in harmony with the earth.

Then there is the matter of breeds. This book from the Smithsonian is an encyclopedia of dog breeds, a fascinating dog phenomena in itself. Choosing a breed is one thing, finding a dog of a specific breed is quite another especially if not a popular well known one.

I slipped a cat book in there just to keep to my roots, Dewey: The Small Town Library Cat Who Touched The World, just released.

And finally there is the Before And After Getting Your Puppy by Ian Dunbar, recommended by a professional dog walker I consulted. Just talking to her raised my anxiety level as she told me how a puppy needed to learn "bite inhibition" and go to puppy socialization class. The book implies that if you don’t do all these things you could have a monster on your hands or toileting problems for months, but it is very clear in its step by step instructions full of pictures. With all these instructions it is easy to be "scared straight" and not get a dog at all at least for me. My hightened anxiety threw me into fit of prophylactic criticism so Catherine shut down the project.
