Dog training videos are a fairly recent invention and are basically an audio visual presentation of the standard dog training book.
The advantage with a video is that you can see step by step how the training should be undertaken and also how the dogs in the video react to the dog training exercises. I personally prefer the dog training videos and DVDs as you can go through them in an evening and see the sections that you plan on using with your dog. Then I start the exercises with my dog the next day.
For me this is much easier than reading a book with lengthy descriptions about how to do a relatively simple task. To actually see a person with a dog going through the exercises and showing you exactly how to go about training your dog is extremely useful and easy to follow.

Dog training books have been around for many years and today they are still basically the same as they were a long time ago. The basic techniques for dog training are still the same as they have always been as the essentials of training any dog is to be able to understand the nature of the dog and how it adapts its behavior within its own natural environment.
